Exercise Your Anxiety Away
People aren’t kidding when they talk about the benefits of exercise, they do seem to ramble on forever but that’s just because the benefits go on forever.
Studies show that exercise maintains a healthy blood sugar level (important if you want to avoid rollercoaster mood swings), lowers blood pressure (reducing stress) , increases levels of good cholesterol (slimming chances of heart related illneses), improves bone density (fighting off osteoperosis) and reduces overall risk of cancer. Yikes! And they’re just the physical benefits of exercising!
When we exercise, our bodies release lots of chemicals and hormones some of which, as sufferers of depression/anxiety, we greatly benefit from. Our old friend Serotonin is produced, as well as dopamine, smiley happy endorphins and norepinephrine. The release of these elevates the mood and leaves us with a glowing ‘high’. It’s similar to the way we feel when we eat chocolate, or have sex.
Exercise may be able to help you far more than medication or therapy might. Doctors are sometimes known to “prescribe” exercise to patients suffering from anxiety, stress or depression
