Anyone for a spot of NLP?
I’d be interested in hearing if anyone has had any experiences with hypnotherapy as a method of treating their anxiety. Please feel free to comment if you have anything to share on this topic.
I believe hypnotherapists sometimes use NLP-based techniques so I’ve been reading into NLP quite a bit recently. If you haven’t heard of it, Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a method of programming your behaviour so that you control the way you act. This is particularly important for us with social anxiety as we tend to create patterns and cycles of behaviour that are hard to break out of. We are not in full control of our behaviour, if we were then we’d be able to stop our panicky ‘fight or flight’ reactions (which we know are silly and unhelpful, don’t we?).
My suggestion to you is to learn more about NLP, whether you pick up a library book, do some research on the net or buy your own book.
I’ve found this website to be very relevant and easy to understand, and I also have this book, though you may want to do your internet research before you consider buying this as it’s kind of jargon-heavy and somewhat hard to get into.

NLP sounds like it might be helpful in staving off negative thinking for those of us that go through that cyclically.
