What Next?
Okay, so you’ve changed your diet, maybe you’ve been to see your doctor…what next?Well, while you’re waiting for a response from your doctor or deciding which route you might take, you could begin to slowly reimmerse yourself back into the big wide world. If a friend asks you to go out somewhere, make yourself go, even if you don’t want to. Avoiding situations where you’ll feel anxious will only fuel feelings of anxiety in the future. The more you put yourself in situations that you’re uncomfortable, the more you will become used to them and the less you will feel anxiety.Since anxiety is often caused as a result of a bad experience and then avoidance, when you actually face the situation and it doesn’t turn out to be as bad as you thought, you will begin to break the mindset that something bad will happen everytime you’re in that particular situation.Another helpful thing to do is read self-help guides on the matter, some are often very informative and include techniques to reduce and eventually stop anxiety.

Forcing yourself to interact with others is difficult but pays off, as you mentioned.
At one time I was so anxious that I stayed indoors for nearly a year and eventually left both school and work. A few years later the only work I could find was at a late night restaurant and I had to get used to dealing with large volumes of talkative people, fast! Today I am much less fearful of talking to people and I owe it to this experience.
